Our turquoise pendant is handmade with a 16x12mm natural turquoise gemstone from the Sleeping Beauty Mine in Arizona. Stones are oval cabochon cut with a robin's egg blue color and set into our sterling silver setting with a solid closed back. A southwest look that goes from your favorite jeans to a dressed up event with ease. Turquoise is one of the birthstones for December.
Sleeping Beauty Turquoise:
The name sleeping beauty came from the mountain where the turquoise was mined. The mountain resembles a sleeping woman laying on her back with her arms crossed. The stones color is a robin's egg blue with little to no matrix or veining. These stones were discovered by accident while miners were pulling copper and gold from the mountain.
The mine stopped producing turquoise in 2012. Since the closure of the mine, the value of this gemstone continues to rise as supplies become harder to find. Often you will hear sleeping beauty turquoise being called a true gem of the Southwest.
Turquoise goes through a process of stabilization to harden the stone and stabilize the color to prevent fading over time.
