Each hair stick began its existence as a dowel. The point is hand carved through various methods, it is then painted, and the loop at the top is set in place. Then each stick gets at least two coats (oftentimes 3-4) of deck sealant. This ensures that if you put your hair up wet, there will be no damage to the wooden stick, and no harm to your hair. After a drying period, the beads are applied with beading wire to keep them secure.
