This is a checker board with included game pieces handcrafted in a zen, minimalist style. The board and pieces are constructed of bamboo skewers glued together one by one, sanded then coated with thick, high gloss epoxy resin. The pieces are magnetized to the board via metal inserts in each square. The game pieces are actually 1" magnets which are then covered with bamboo. Included are fifteen black and fifteen natural bamboo grain pieces each painstakingly crafted. Twelve of each sets up the game, and three extra pieces of each color are included. The set also comes with a charming wooden box to house the thirty game pieces. Surrounding the board is a square formation of round bamboo rods connected to bamboo cubes and accented with brass inserts. The bottom of the board is decorated with wooden medallions with the design of trees. Black gesso was used on the top squares and on the bottom to create a deep black hue. Polyurethane bumpers elevate the board and protect the bottom and keep the board firmly in place when in use. The checker board is 16"x16" and 2 3/8" tall. The included box is 7"x5", and 2 1/4" tall. The board weighs over 12 1/2" lbs. Many, many hours over many months were spent in its construction. Much love was put into its construction.
