This little teardrop shaped dulcimer was designed and crafted by Tom McShane with a child’s hands & temperament in mind. However it is suitable for all folks, young and old, who desire a smaller instrument tuned to a higher pitch, with frets closer together. Ruggedly built, but beautiful in tone. Affordable. Durable, & well suited for small children, or for players with small hands. The dulcimer measures 27" in length, and 7 1/2" wide, with a scale length (VSL) of 21 5/8". The body is 1 1/2" deep, and the fingerboard is 1 3/8" wide. For the soundboard, I am currently using select solid Western Red Cedar. It is fully braced! The sides and backs are made with rugged, instrument grade Baltic birch laminate, with a solid poplar or maple fingerboard, and birch headstock. The one pictured is not the one you will be receiving. They're made individually by order. You can tune these dulcimers to standard D tuning, or tune to F or G tuning, which is closer to a child's vocal range.
