Flour Bag Fabric Art: Sitting Cat, Farmhouse Style Upcycled Art
This cat has a history — the fabrics covering it were originally Depression-era flour bags. (Yes, flour that you bake with!) Miriam’s grandmother used flour bags in the 1930s to create clothing for her children. Pieces of those flour bags have been handed down through generations and used for crafts. This sitting cat is one of the most recent creations. She is made from foamboard covered in 1930s fabric on the front and modern-day velour on the back. Her vivid yellow eyes are painted in acrylics. She can adorn a bare corner of a room, sit on a shelf or table, or mask an otherwise bland door stopper. (Note that she is not heavy enough by herself to act as a door stopper.) She is 14" tall and 10" wide.
