This Hourglass Pen is a comfortable writing instrument that is both elegant and functional. The upper barrel is a working hourglass that can be detached from the pen. Simply unscrew the pen halves to separate the two pieces. The hourglass is securely fastened in a cage and contains approximately 60 seconds of sand. This pen features a twist mechanism. To extend or retract the writing tip, rotate the upper and lower barrels in opposite directions. The writing tip can still be extended or retracted with the halves separated by grasping and turning the small band at the top end of the lower barrel. The metal components of the pen have a rose gold finish.  The hand-turned barrel is made from locally-sourced Black Walnut wood with a satin finish. The barrel swells slightly in the middle which accentuates the curves of the hourglass. The pen comes fitted with black ink but readily accepts mini refills of other colors. Refills are available through most office supply stores. The pen is just over 5-1/2 inches long when assembled and weighs approximately 1.4 ounces.
