Jewelry: Ladies' Unique Gold Chain and Crystal, Polymer Clay Cabachon 18k Gold Wire-Wrapped, Pendant, Over-Sweater Swarovski Crystal
The cabachon is from polymer clay with a Mokumé Gané effect: this technique is from Japan and simulates wood grain using thin strips of clay in layers with real gold leafing between the layers. If you look closely enough, you can see the layers beneath--transparent clay allows you to see deeper, giving the stone more depth. The wire is 18k gold-filled round and square, that's been twisted and bent to enhance the cabachon into a cage keeping it secure. Wire-wrapping and working is my favourite technique. It's also an expansion of a design by Dale "Cougar" Armstrong; she's a popular designer in the wire-wrapping world. It's finished off with a dangle made of an 8-mm Olivine AB Swarovski crystal, champagne glass pearl, and 3-mm Gold Alium Swarovski crystal, all wire-wrapped flawlessly onto a wire-wrapped brass head pin. The finished length measures about 26" so now that the weather has turned colder, it's perfect for a sweater, or those autumn cocktail dresses we salivate over for those parties (that none of us ever attend 😉).
