Painting of Lakota Two-Spirit

Product Description

Colorful and vibrant, this painting features a Two-Spirit, Lakota person whose modern mohawk transitions into flowers as they gaze serenely at the viewer. During the Western Colonization of the United States, the cultures, wellness, and even the very humanity of Indigenous people, especially Two-Spirits, was undervalued and disregarded just because they differed so greatly from the West. As I made this painting, I kept thinking about how much society still over-values sameness. Personally, I think we should focus more on valuing each other not for what we have in common, but for the ways in which we are different. Original painting is watercolor, Bombay ink, water-soluble graphite, oil, and acrylic on 12x18-inch paper. Only my best-selling art is on here. Find more art and merchandise at arienreed.com
