The edges will be black from the burning process. **As with every wood item, each piece will be different and can have small defects of cracks, knots, or blemishes. Stain/paint color and engravings can also very slightly due to the characteristics of the wood. Paint can be a little tacky/sticky. Avoid placing sides directly on top of each other when storing.
