I handcraft each of my pendants using laser engraved wax seal stamps that I custom designed. The Vettii Collection is so named after the ancient Pompeiian villa from which the ornate design was inspired. The Vettii house is one of the most richly decorated homes in the ancient city of Pompeii, a wealthy Roman coastal town on the Bay of Naples that was destroyed by a massive volcano in 79 AD. The House of the Vettii was only recently re-opened to the public after decades of restoration, which revealed beautiful artwork including magnificent mosaics, sculptures, and frescoes. Named after the pair of freedmen (former slaves) who had become wealthy and owned the home, it was sprawling with its own plumbing (still remaining today) and lavishly decorated. The central pendant in the Vettii collection represents a small decorative element located above one of the magnificent frescoes recently uncovered. A detail that may have otherwise gone unnoticed next to the much larger painting that has been made famous by its mastery and symbolism. But to the wearer, represents a direct connection to a beloved place long forgotten.
