I was walking in a garden at Cheekwood Estate and Gardens in Nashville on a hot Summer day when I saw this beautiful Red Hibiscus in full bloom. I took a bunch of photos and got a little lucky when a bumblebee decided to visit. I really liked the lights and darks of the scene and was excited to get back to the studio to create this painting. The light was really good that day and the sunlit blossom and leaves really stood out in front of the dark earthy background. I also painted its companion piece Rose Mallow, another Summer flower that does well on a hot Summer day. Both of them where a joy to paint, I hope you like them both.
