I was in a garden at Cheekwood Estate and Gardens in Nashville on a hot Summer day when I saw this huge Rose Mallow blossom. I really loved the light and the many folds in the blooms and the bud behind it. Of course I took some reference photos so I could paint it later in the studio. I enjoyed painting the color combination of all the pinks and reds and the subtle tobacco color of the spent flower beneath it. I also painted its companion piece "Red Hibiscus" that I saw in the same row of flowers that day. I hope you like them both.
