Hand Made Japanese Wall Plaque (if you need more then one, contact us. We will do a custom listing for you) Our small Japanese plaques are back in stock. These are hand made from solid white oak. This white oak fell a few years ago, and a friend cut it down to thicker slabs for me. These are made from the thinner boards. I clean the boards up and cut the lumber down to size, paint on a phrase of your choice, and then hand finish the plaque in my own dye mixture. I then top it all off with a clear coat that gives it a satin finish. We attach a string hanger and 2 wooden beads. Both made by artist a few towns away. Everything is made locally. Nothing imported or made with cheap labor. I enjoy working in my shop and take pride in what I make. These have a clean crisp grain pattern. You can tell it grew slow. The pictures do not do the wood justice. These are 11" X 1 1/2" X 1/4" thick. The edges have been left slightly rough, as it adds to the look of the plaques. These would work great outside, as white oak has a good resistance to water. If you are planning on using it outdoors, we can leave it raw or use a oil finish suitable for the outdoors. These plaques are typical all over Japan. They are given out for the new years, or holidays. They are in homes to bless them. They are at the different temples as blessings.
