The wolf appears to be in motion, walking towards the viewer with intense eyes that are directly engaging the viewer. Its fur has shades of gray, black, and hints of brown, suggesting a thick coat suitable for cold environments. The background features slender, bare trees with a few leaves or branches, and the ground has patches of snow, indicating a chilly, winter setting. From the artist: This piece is remarkable in that it was first oil pastel work to be set in a winter environment. It was also my largest and most detailed work to feature a wolf at the time.
