Welcome to BURNT EARTH HORSEHAIR POTTERY REMEMBER I CAN DO CUSTOM ORDERS JUST MESSAGE ME WHAT YOU WANT DONE. My name is Mike Tarter, aka Sauce and I have spent over 45 years in Policing, Safety, and Security. During my 22 years with the Albuquerque Police Department, one of my assignments was being in charge of the Bomb Squad. This was a position where I needed not to think about work after I was off work. I tried everything from running, racquetball, weights, and ceramics. I found that working on ceramics and clay took his mind completely off work. I had to concentrate so hard on what I was doing or I would break the piece I was working on. It was the same with working on an explosive device except there you get broken up if you are not paying attention. This began a long journey, where I learned how to work a potter’s wheel, and hand build with clay and ceramic molds. I became interested in horsehair many years ago and have begun to explore different methods using the horsehair technique on ideas I have created. I live in Corrales, New Mexico with my wife and have a working studio where from time to time I will give demonstrations of how the horsehair burns into my creations.
