Welcome to Knits and Stiches! I have been knitting for more than 60 years, and have created dozens of sweaters, baby blankets and afghans for my family over the years. But what I really love to make are hats—knit fruit and vegetable hats in particular. When my own kids started having kids of their own, I started making pumpkin hats for my grandchildren for Halloween. They were a huge hit and I eventually started experimenting with other patterns and since then have added a veritable garden of vegetables and fruits. Today, I make all sorts of hats in a wide range of styles and sizes from newborn to adult. They’re adorable on babies, but even my college-aged grandkids love the pumpkin hats. Last year I sold dozens to my grandson’s friends at college! Choose from the classic pumpkin or pick more from the garden: corn, eggplant, onions, blueberries, watermelon, strawberries, raspberries and more. If you are interested in a hat version of another fruit or vegetable, message me and I will see if I can create a pattern to make a hat. I hope you’ll get as much a kick out of getting and giving these hats as I do.
