The Spinning Angora
Welcome to The Spinning Angora! We are at the base of Mount Shasta in California. Here I produce luxurious, soft, handspun angora and angora blend-alpaca, wool, silk and plant based fiber-yarns and beanies from my own bunnies. Angora is closest to the warmest fiber (7x warmer than wool) having a hollow core giving it superior insulating properties. The fiber itself is also very fine (10-18 microns)-my rabbits when tested give 13-15 microns), is moisture wicking and gives the classic fuzzy Angora “halo” when spun into yarn. It is often blended with wool to increase softeness, warmth and elasticity and to make it easier to spin. Angora blended with hemp or flax will soften the coarser fibers. A truly luxurious fiber for sustainable environmentally friendly yarns and apparel.
