Do you have a pencil or other writing/drawing utensil which needs sharpening but it's too large for most sharpeners? Well, it will absolutely positively fit inside this sharpener! Because it's meant for the Lyra Giant pencils and they aren't kidding calling them Giant.

Now, I can't guarantee exactly how well this sharpener will work on everything. Obviously it's not great for smaller pencils because they just get kinda lost inside and while you /can/ technically use it for them, it's harder to keep the blade aligned so it eats up the lead and wood even when paying close attention. The largest pencils that I currently have aren't bigger than a Faber-Castell Wax Crayon, it's a fat Dixon and the beautiful Koh-I-Noor Magic Fx pencils. This Lyra sharpener will sharpen them but I've noticed it leaves a little notch in everything, even in that thick crayon which can't go too deep. This may just be the inevitable result of ending the sharpening process or perhaps this particular one is a little out of alignment?? I'm not certain. I mostly bought this because I read that the blade could be removed and sharpened and while I haven't done that yet it's certainly big enough to try! If I ever buy a carpenter's pencil, I'm all set. Or the Lyra Giants which I have been considering.

I also tried this on a Faber-Castell Oil Pastel and then realized it would be a pain to clean it out lol but it /did/ work, of course. I have pondered what it could do with a Daniel Smith Watercolor Stick, just put the shavings in a palette and use the sharpened end to draw directly, but I don't have one to test it with. You could also use it for a Stabilo Woody, though it'll still dwarf it. But if you didn't want to buy the official green Woody sharpener, this should work.

I'm giving the Lyra Sharpener 5 stars because although it doesn't do well on everything since it's absolutely massive, it fills a niche and the construction is solid. Also, I enjoy the yellow/blue color-scheme: the top is a very nice dark blue, same shade as the lettering on the bottom.

I bought this sharpener specifically to sharpen specialty pencils made from tree bark. The sharpener handled the size, toughness, and odd size with no problem.
